Signs that you are Wearing the Wrong Shoes

You may now be aware of it, but a lot of foot and ankle injuries can be traced back to ill-fitting footwear. If you have experienced corns, calluses, foot pain, and the like, it may be likely that you are not wearing the correct shoes.

It is estimated that only one out of three people are actually wearing shoes of the right width and length.

Foot Pain. This is the most obvious sign that the shoes you are wearing are not right for you. Your footwear should never cause irritation or pain.

Toenail problems. If your shoes are too small or your toe box too tight, this can exert too much pressure on your toes. Eventually, this can lead to blackening or worse, loss of the toenail. An ingrown toenail, on the other hand, can happen if your shoes are placing pressure on the sides of the toes, eventually pushing the skin into the nail plate.

Corns and Calluses. Corns can develop on the sides of your feet or toes. These are dead, hard skin that are often caused by constant pressure on a specific area.

Blisters. These are small pockets of fluid that may develop after a skin burn, infection, etc. Blisters commonly develop on the feet. Repeated blisters may mean you are wearing the wrong shoes.

There are a lot of foot problems that may unknowingly be caused by wearing the wrong shoes. If you are experiencing any kind of persistent foot pain that adversely affects your daily activities, it’s time to see a foot doctor for evaluation.
