Doctors are suddenly seeing patients whose main complaint are lesions on the toes. These are usually red, slightly swollen, sore, and sometimes itchy swellings on the toes. These are now being called “COVID toes”, similar to a skin condition found on extremities of people who have spent a long time out in the cold. For some patients who have tested positive for the virus, these toe lesions are one of the first signs they notice. Sometimes, the itchy toes come after the more common COVID symptoms such as cough, fever, and breathing problems.

If you think that you have these signs and symptoms, it is best to seek an expert’s opinion. If COVID toes is your only concern, do not rush to the ER, where there is a risk of being exposed to the coronavirus or exposing others in case you are infected. Telemedicine is available in a number of clinics. Your podiatrist is also the best to consult about toe issues, be sure to schedule an appointment.
For more information on COVID toes, you may contact Dr. Kevin Lam’s office at (239) 430-3668 (FOOT) or visit NaplesPodiatrist.com
