Southwest Florida is one of the most active outdoor communities in the United States. With year-round warm weather, world-class golf courses, the nation’s fastest-growing pickleball scene, and endless opportunities for running, cycling, and water sports, our region’s athletes put enormous demands on their feet and ankles. When injuries happen — and they will — Family Foot & Leg Center’s sports podiatry team provides the same level of care that Dr. Kevin Lam has delivered to Olympic athletes, college sports programs, and professional teams. You deserve that expertise too.
Naples, Bonita Springs, and the surrounding communities are ground zero for America’s pickleball explosion. The sport’s combination of quick lateral movements, frequent stopping and starting, and hard court surfaces creates a distinctive injury profile that our podiatrists are uniquely equipped to treat.
The golf swing is a complex, rotationally intensive movement that generates significant torque through the foot and ankle. Southwest Florida's year-round golf season means that repetitive-use injuries accumulate without the winter break that northern golfers experience.
From the Naples and Fort Myers marathon communities to casual joggers on the Gulf Coast beaches, runners represent a significant portion of our sports medicine patients. Our podiatrists understand running biomechanics deeply and design treatment plans that get runners back on the road as quickly as possible.
Not necessarily. Our philosophy is to keep you active while treating your injury whenever it is clinically safe to do so. We will give you specific activity guidelines, cross-training recommendations, and any protective equipment needed to continue participating while you recover. Complete rest is often not necessary and can actually slow rehabilitation.
Stress fractures and soft tissue injuries can feel very similar. Clinical examination combined with digital X-rays at our office will typically differentiate them. For subtle stress fractures, we may order an MRI. Do not delay evaluation — a missed stress fracture that continues to be loaded can progress to a complete fracture requiring significantly longer recovery.
Custom orthotics designed for your sport and biomechanics can significantly reduce injury risk by correcting the gait mechanics that predispose you to overuse injuries. For pickleball players, runners, and golfers, we often recommend a biomechanical evaluation and sport orthotic fitting proactively — before an injury develops.
