A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the inside of the big-toe joint. As it develops, the big toe drifts toward the lesser toes, the joint juts out, and the second toe can begin to hammer. Bunions develop slowly, and over time they make it painful to wear shoes or walk.

Can a Bunion Be Treated Without Surgery?

Conservative care can ease symptoms but cannot reverse the deformity. We often start with wider toe-box shoes, padding, custom orthotics, and avoiding tight, pointed, or high-heeled shoes that increase pressure on the joint. These steps reduce pain and can slow progression, but a bunion that is already painful and growing usually keeps advancing.

When Surgery Makes Sense

Surgery is considered when pain and difficulty walking persist despite nonsurgical measures. The concern many patients have heard is real for traditional open bunion surgery: a long, painful recovery. That is exactly the problem the minimally invasive approach was designed to solve.

The Minimally Invasive, Scarless Lam Modified Bunionectomy

The minimally invasive, scarless Lam Modified Bunion Procedure corrects the deformity through tiny incisions rather than a long open cut. Because it spares the surrounding soft tissue, it can be performed in the safety of our office surgical suite under local anesthesia. The benefits patients notice most:

What Recovery Looks Like

Most patients walk immediately in a protective surgical shoe and return to regular shoes over the following weeks as swelling settles. We guide activity, swelling control, and footwear at each visit so the correction holds.
