This Case
This patient had a bunionectomy more than 20 years ago. You can see the preoperative right foot, the foot during recovery, and the fully recovered result — the old screw was removed and the angular deformity corrected. (And yes, the patient is coming back to have the left foot revised too.) This modification of the Peabody bunionectomy works well both for first-time correction and for revisions.
Why Bunions Recur
- The original procedure under-corrected the deformity or did not address the root mechanics
- Underlying flat foot or loose ligaments keep pushing the big toe out of line
- Hardware (a screw or plate) became prominent or painful
