New Northeast Naples location Coming Soon!

Back-to-school season is here for Southwest Florida families — and the right shoes do more than complete the outfit. Many of the foot, heel, and ankle problems we see in children can be prevented with properly fitted shoes of the correct length. Here’s how to assess and buy kids’ shoes the right way.

How to Fit a Child’s Shoe

How Often to Replace Kids’ Shoes

During growth spurts, children’s feet change fast — plan to replace shoes anywhere from every 3 to 6 months depending on the child’s age, weight, and activity level. Shoes that are too small force the toes into cramped positions and can contribute to ingrown nails, while worn-out shoes lose the support a growing foot needs.

When to See a Podiatrist

If your child complains of foot, heel, or leg pain, trips frequently, or wears out shoes unevenly, it may signal a flatfoot or another issue that the right shoe — or a simple orthotic — can address. A quick evaluation now can prevent bigger problems later.
